Sunday Update
{Pictures from traveling on Saturday, and Sunday morning at church}
It's Sunday afternoon, and we are preparing to head out to La Primavera for the evening activities. We had a great morning at La Fraternidad de Christiano - a large church in Guatemala City. The music was upbeat and uplifting, and the sermon was meaningful for everyone, even if we struggled to understand all of it.
After a great lunch of chicken, chile rellenos, and leeches (a weird fruit with spiky things - I'll have some pictures later), we did some orientation and had some great conversation about the ministry. Then we worked to prepare craft bags for the VBS days later in the week.
Right now I have to go - sorry for the short update, but we are loading up and going to have a great time with the kids tonight. Lots of fun things happening and the group is doing awesome.

Julio and his blue guitar
What is "La Guitarra Azul" (the blue guitar)??
In 2008, Kellye and Jesse had the privilege of joining the ministry of Hearts for Heaven in their annual Christmas celebration. For several days, we traveled around the country, visiting churches, talking about the Christmas story and giving presents to the kids. It was a real adventure!
In one small village church called "Mas Aguas," the children had prepared welcome signs and had practiced songs to perform. But one young boy, Julio, had gone even further. He had been practicing playing guitar and singing, and he brought his guitar to church that day and requested that he be able to play a special song for us and for God.
After the service, Kellye and I talked with Julio. He told us he wanted to grow up to be a singer/songwriter. I told him that I also played guitar, and I thought he had a lot of talent. He in turn gave me one of his guitar picks - a flowery, multicolored one. Kellye and I were significantly touched by Julio's heart and the songs he sang.
It was important for Julio to know that a group was coming to visit his church. He was looking forward to it, and it was a big day for him. But even more significant than the impact we had on Julio's life, was how he touched my life. He challenged me to work hard, to have dreams, and to live what I believe. Julio's blue guitar changed the way I look at my world.
